How to activate an eSIM on iPhone

On iPhone, open Settings, Mobile Service, Add eSIM, and scan the QR code while you are on Wi-Fi. Name the line Travel.

Before you fly, set Mobile Data to the travel line and turn data roaming off on your home line. After you land, turn data roaming on for the travel line only.

iPhones sold in mainland China don’t support eSIM. US iPhones from the 14 onward have no physical tray, so an eSIM is the only option.
